Being Kind
The importance of kindness
Kindness is defined as the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. There are many ways that you can practice kindness starting with the moment you wake up. It is being alert and aware to situations where people could use a helping hand. A sense of community is created when people are kind to those who need help.
A kind word, a smile, opening a door, or helping carry a heavy load can all be acts of kindness. It can also look like helping an elderly person with their shopping, sharing something, not taking part in gossiping or taking a nice photo with someone and then sharing it. Kindness also includes being kind to yourself. Doing this brings about a sense of satisfaction, which in turn boosts morale and your mental health.
What are we doing?
Here at Outwood Academy Freeston, we promote kindness in everything we do. From how we behave in and around school, to wider actions in our local community.
We firmly believe that kindness is its own reward- but also know sometimes it feels great to get some recognition for your work and we do this through our Random Acts of Kindness initiative!
The initiative works on a nomination process in which staff or students can nominate someone for being kind. A weekly draw then decides who the RAKtivist of the week is and this is showcased in the RAK bulletin and in school.
