Frequently Asked Questions - School Safety
What has Outwood Academy Freeston done to ensure the Academy is safe?
There are a number of measures that are currently in place and will remain in place upon return in September. Students and staff have been advised and will be actively encouraged to maintain social distancing wherever possible. There are several hand washing and sanitising stations throughout the Academy and within the classroom. Areas and equipment are being cleaned more frequently and will continue to do so. The Academy is keeping up to date with all the government guidance and is continuing to monitor the situation carefully.
Can Outwood Academy Freeston 100% guarantee that my child will NOT get Coronavirus (COVID-19) in school?
As within any public space, we cannot 100% guarantee that your child will not get coronvarius whilst attending school. What we can say, is that we are following all government guidelines stringently and ensuring that students have limited contact points within a class (i.e. pens/pots/boards etc.), maintain social distancing where possible and remain within their year group bubbles. If you wish to discuss the procedures in place then please contact the email address at the bottom of this webpage.
Does my child have to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when returning to school?
Following recent government guidance, it is advised to wear PPE such as face masks in social areas and along corridors when returning to school. Please note that this is not currently compulsory but could be subject to change. If your child decides to wear a protective covering, we ask that they be appropriate for an educational setting. There will be several hand sanitising stations available on school site along with other procedures put in place such as increased signage to support social distancing and minimising contact with others.
Frequently Asked Questions - School Procedures
Are children staying in bubbles when they return to school?
Upon return in September, children will be in bubbles. This will be done in their year group. You can find all the information about the September start date on the Academy Website HERE or alternatively, email your questions to the email address at the bottom of this page.
What would happen if my child has coronavirus-like symptoms?
If your child presented symptoms similar to coronavirus (COVID-19) they would first go to the medical office where a staff member would ensure they are okay. They would then be sent home and would complete a coronavirus test. If the test came back negative then they are able to come back on to school site. If the test comes back positive then they would follow government guidance and self-isolate for 14 days.
How is the Academy going to ensure that different bubbles do not mix when on school site?
Before entering school site, year groups will have different entrances to enter the premises by. It is important to make note of these. Students will then go to their tutor group bubbles (within year groups) before going to lesson. The Academy has implemented a one-way system with signage to make it abundantly clear of the correct way to get across school site. There will also be staggered break and lunch times to avoid groups from different year groups coming into contact with each other.
Frequently Asked Questions - Home Learning/Education
Will my child be able to choose whether they can come into school or access home learning?
Government guidance states that children are to be welcomed back to an educational setting in September 2020. Therefore, we expect all children to return to school and their education unless there are exceptional circumstances for which the school should be made aware of as quickly as possible.
Will home learning continue?
Home learning will still be incorporated as additional learning opportunites for our students. For students not in the Academy (as they may be self-isolating) then online learning will be available so they do not fall behind with work. The vast majority of learning will now take place back in the Academy.
My child has missed 6 months of their education. Will they recap what they have missed?
This is very much down to each individual subject. If your child has accessed the Google Classroom, received work packs or have done their own revision then this will very much bridge the gap between the last academic year and this academic year. It may not always be possible to recap on work missed due to time restrictions however, throughout the year there will be opportunity (particualrly at Year 11) to catch up on any missed work.
