Baking

Why is baking good?

For many years, baking has been viewed predominantly as quite a feminine activity, however it is extremely difficult to ignore the many benefits that baking has on one's mental health. Baking has shown to help improve mindfulness, satisfaction and sensory pleasure. The reasons for this is that baking is what is known as a 'focused activity' which occupies the whole mind and body. Even elements in baking such as kneading can offer a stress relief and subside the symptoms of anxiety and depression due to the redirection of your thoughts to this simple activity.

What other benefits are there to baking?

It is a calming activity

Any activity which requires your whole attention can have a calming effect on the mind. This is because it acts as a distraction from any negative thinking processes.

It stimulates the senses

Baking manages to engage all of the senses, from the smell of the amazing final product, to the feel of the kneading process. Stimulating the senses, in turn releases feel-good endorphins.

It feels good to look after your health

Being aware of ALL the ingredients that go into something you have made creates a brilliant sense of satisfaction.

You can express your creative side

Psychology studies have found a strong connection between creative expression and general wellbeing. Allow your creative side to be expressed and feel the benefits from your baking!

It makes other people happy

One of the more obvious benefits of baking is being able to share what you have made with others. This puts a smile on the recipients face and as a result, makes YOU happy as well! Spread the joy!
